With each individual viewing my paintings, I want each to interpret and to feel their own cognitive and emotional message with the image. Using detail, texture, color and lighting contrasts in my artwork, I want to lead others to see what is beyond logic and to see what
can be felt emotionally within.

My lifelong love affair with art has informed the way I see the world and how I have chosen to live in it. It was the reason for my decision to go into architecture: to create art through the design of buildings and environments.

Color, texture, and line are important in my paintings. Some pieces I create represent the beginning of the universe. I use intensity of color, movement, line, and visual texture to portray the energy I imagine it took for the world to come into being. I also utilize these elements in my landscapes to express the beauty I see in nature.

I find inspiration from travels across the U. S. and the world and watercolor is my preferred medium. The texture, moods, and drama of nature are my preferred subject matter.

My paintings are the result of a strong visual experience. Experiences which excite me now usually result in a series of paintings. These paintings are a way for me to preserve and personalize the experience. I try to isolate on those aspects of the overall visual experience which resonate with me, and to convey that in the paintings.

"What I am interested in is expressing basic human emotions; anxiety, despair, happiness, ecstasy, tragedy, pleasure, fear, compassion, loneliness, doom and so on. I am only trying to explain to myself the ambiguity of life. Really, it does not matter what medium I use to
explain it."
